Is Failure Your F-Word?
Redefining what it really means to fail—and why it might be your greatest teacher.
I’ve never liked the word failure.
It always felt heavy. Final. Shameful.
Like a permanent mark that meant, “You didn’t just mess up—you ARE the mess-up.”
Growing up, failure wasn’t something we learned from. It was something used against us. If I didn’t succeed at something, it wasn’t just a disappointment—it became evidence. Evidence that I wasn’t good enough. That I’d never make it. That I was foolish to even try.
Sound familiar?
That kind of conditioning sticks with you. It worms its way into your mindset, your confidence, and eventually… your business.
The Yoga Studio That “Failed” (But Didn’t)
Years ago, I opened a small yoga and reiki studio. It wasn’t flashy. It wasn’t meant to rake in millions.
It was deeply personal—a space for people to feel safe, seen, and supported.
For a time, it did exactly that.
But when my son went to college, I made a choice: I wanted to be closer to him. So I sold my house, ended my leases, and moved. I transitioned into a new chapter of life and business.
And then, one day, someone asked me:
“Do you feel like the studio was a failure?”
I was stunned. Failure? That word never once crossed my mind.
Because here’s what I know now:
That studio wasn’t a failure. It was feedback.
It showed me what worked and what didn’t. It revealed what I loved doing—and what I’d change if I ever did it again. And most importantly, it taught me what people truly need when building a purpose-driven business: structure, systems, and support.
What Failure Actually Looks Like in Business
Failure in business isn’t always about money lost or goals missed.
Sometimes failure looks like:
Freezing before you ever launch
Constantly tweaking your offer, never fully confident
Avoiding visibility because you're afraid of being “found out”
Burning out because the backend of your business is duct-taped together
I’ve been there. I get it.
But here’s the reframe that changed my life:
Failure isn’t the end. It’s feedback.
It’s data. Information. Guidance.
It’s your business (and life) telling you where to shift, where to grow, and where to build stronger foundations.
Don’t Let “Frozen” Be Your F-Word Either
Sometimes, we don’t even give ourselves the chance to fail—because we’re too afraid to start.
But that dream burning in your heart? The one you keep shelving until “everything is perfect”? That’s not going away.
And the truth is—perfection never comes. But progress does, when you build the right support around you.
You don’t need to do this alone.
You don’t have to keep guessing.
And you certainly don’t need to stay stuck in freeze mode because you’re scared of getting it “wrong.”
